Back to Arrangement
– If a track is in use by the session view, it cannot be played from the arrangement page until the Back to Arrangement button is activated.

Bass
– low frequencies, those below approximately 200 Hz

Bass Pot
– a knob that alters the value of the bass frequency

Bassline
– a riff or groove played by a low-frequency instrument (in dance music this is usually a synth)

Beatmatching
– the process of adjusting two different tunes to play at the same speed

Beats / Bars
– a musical measure. For example, a 4/4 has four beats per bar.

Bit Depth
– the level of detail at which a computer samples analog audio to create digital audio. Generally, when recording with a home PC, you can choose between 8-, 16-, and 24-bit sampling.

Bitcrusher
– lets you reduce the bit-rate of the audio signal, producing a more lo-fi sound

Blend
– to mix smoothly from one source to another

Bookmarks

– allow the user to quickly save and recall frequently used folder locations in the browser

Bottom End
– the lower frequencies of a sound

Bounce Out / Down

– taking the track or a section of it and mixing it into a single audio file

BPM
– beats per minute

Breakdown
– usually the mid-section of a track where the beat slows or stops, creating tension before the next section

Browse Sample
– lets the user look through a list of samples to bring into the sampler

Browser
– used for accessing and easily viewing the Ableton Live devices and files stored in your computer’s hard-disk

Burn to CD
– takes the selected file(s) and creates a CD – usually an audio CD that’s playable on a normal CD player
