Level One
Level Two
Level Three
Is it for me?
Music Production Level One is a great starter course if you are looking to break in to music production, or if you’re already DJing and want to mould some of your own beats. All you need to get started is a basic knowledge of computers and a love of music!
What will I learn?
Equipment and set-up
Start off by making sure all the hardware and software (MIDI controllers, keyboards, soundcards, headphones, etc.) is set up for optimal performance.
Drums
Sonic’s instructors show you how to construct loops of beats to suit a number of musical styles.
Synths and sound modules
The next step in the course is adding in some of the track’s melodic parts, like basslines, synthesizer patterns, and rhythmic stabs.
Effects
Deepen your track with various effects, like filter, delay, reverb, flange, and distortion.
Basic Mixing
We take on the equaliser (EQ), balancing sound levels and cutting and boosting frequencies.
Arrangement and export
Set a timescale and arrange the separate loops and effects into a single track. Then we’ll finish off by mixing the various channels into a single audio file that you’ll be able to upload, burn to CD or transfer to an MP3 player.
Date : No courses scheduled, please contact us for more details.

Is it for me?
If you want to take your music a step further, Music Production Level Two is for you. Building on the techniques learned in Level One, we'll take a look at musical theory, FX, sampling and arranging your tune into a full track.
What will I learn?
Music theory
The course starts off with a more traditional music lesson, covering musical notes, semitones, octaves, chords and harmonies and giving you a better idea of how the elements of a track fit together.
Apple Loops
We'll introduce you to Apple Loops - pre-recorded songs and sample loops that you can download and slice into, chopping and editing them to use in your own tracks.
Creative FX
Work on adding effects to your tunes - things like sidechaining, compression and gating.
Synth programming
The next step is the synthesizer. Your tutor will help you write synth lines and add dimensions to them using ADSR envelopes (with attack, decay, sustain and release effects), low-frequency oscillators, filters, and more.
Bootlegs and edits
Make some mash-ups! We’ll work on re-editing tunes and merging two separate tracks into one.
Mixing and arranging
We’ll show you how to equalise and compress your track’s mix and structure it – using automation to combine all the song’s parts into a single track along the timeline you set.
Mastering
Apply some final effects to your track – allowing you to take away a fully mixed and mastered track of your own.
Is it for me?
The most challenging course in our music production series, Music Production Level Three will help you get your tunes up to industry standards. Advanced music theory tutorials give you the perfect foundation to build on, and the collection of complex effects and arranging techniques we study will become like second nature.
What will I learn?
Music Theory
We really dig into musical theory at the start of the course – talking about chord sequences, key changes, augmented and diminished chords. This session will inject your composing with energy and sophistication, and give you the chance to compose more complicated rhythms and melodies.
Advanced FX
We'll introduce you to more complex effects like chaining effects, dummy clips, scales, vocoder and voice synthesis.
Synth Programming
Our Sonic trainers school you in building bass and synth sounds and patches from the bottom up.
Mixing and arranging
We take mixing to a more challenging place, refining your techniques for grouping channels, equalising vocals and using compression effects. Then we’ll go over track structuring and automation, making your tracks as smoothly assembled as possible.
