We can deliver workshops in DJ skills, music technology and other urban disciplines.
Our youth and community courses are primarily aimed at young people aged 11 - 35, but we can tailor all of our courses can be to suit the age and objectives of your group or project.
Workshops can be run as stand alone taster sessions, half/full day workshops or ongoing programmes running up to 12 weeks. They can focus on particular areas (e.g. DJ skills, Music Technology or VJing skills) or can be multidisciplinary.
No previous experience is necessary and we provide state of the art equipment and experienced tutors for all of our training courses. We are also fully mobile, so if you can't get to us, we'll get to you!
We work all year round helping you to fulfil both holiday and term time needs and prices start from as little as little as £100 + VAT for a taster session.

What is available?
Training courses are available in:
DJ skills - beginner to advanced
This course offers participants the opportunity to learn all the essentials of DJing. Our experienced tutors guide participants through everything they need to know to become a DJ; from what equipment to use, to mixing and scratching to how to set up and run your own events.
Groups are encouraged to work towards delivering a collaborative DJ set, facilitated by Sonic Academy staff.
Mix CDs (recorded and mastered by our tutors) are provided for all participants to take away with them at the end of the programme.
Music Technology - beginner to advanced
These programmes introduce participants to all the technology involved in making music. Our tutors guide the group through computer hardware and software and also teach them how to write, record and produce tracks in any style - from hip hop and urban beats to dance, rock, pop and indie.
Courses are also available at our state of the art recording studio for live musicians and bands, wanting to get into studio recording.
With our support, participants work towards creating their own tracks to take away with them at the end of the programme.
VJing is one of the hottest urban art forms to emerge over the last few years. Using various techniques such as digital photography, film making techniques and computer animation, participants learn how to create visuals to complement the work of DJs.
By the end of the course, participants are encouraged to present a collaborative final production.
Aerosol Art - delivered in association with BlazeFX
Aerosol (or Urban) Art is a rapidly growing art form, which is increasingly being seen in cities and galleries around the world.
This course introduces participants to the history and processes of Aerosol Art with graffiti artists BlazeFX, focussing training on developing positive artistic awareness and highlighting the negative impact of graffiti as vandalism.
Groups are encouraged to work towards a final, collaborative piece of art work.
Rapping and MCing - delivered in association with Artfrique
This course gives participants tips on how to write raps and urban poetry and to inspire them to write rap lyrics of their own. We focus on encouraging participants to freely express their own views and experiences.
The course is designed to encourage participants to work creatively within a group setting culminating in an original piece written and performed by the group with a musical accompaniment.
Urban Dance - delivered in assocaiton with Artfrique
Artfrique are well versed in the art of Urban Dance. In a course led by international dancer and choreographer Tura, participants will learn to move through popping, locking, and other hip hop and break-dancing techniques.
Tura will help your group build the foundations for a real street dance battle.
