Course description
This week, we're excited to welcome Larry Holcombe back for a brand-new How To Make course, where he guides you through the complete process of producing a Minimal Drum & Bass track from scratch.
Focusing on sonic texture, groove, and subtle variation rather than melodic elements, this production embraces a tech-inspired, digital aesthetic with a dark, sinister edge. Larry begins by building a solid rhythmic foundation before diving into bass sound design in ANA 2, using resampling techniques to create, slice, and rearrange unique textures into an evolving bass groove.
As the track develops, you'll explore arrangement techniques, introduce atmospheric stabs and haunting vocal elements, and learn how constant refinement and small creative adjustments help bring the production to life. The course finishes with a detailed mixdown and a straightforward mastering process to prepare the track for the next stage.
This course is all about experimentation, creative sound design, and embracing happy accidents. While the end result is minimal in style, it's packed with valuable production techniques, practical tips, and workflow insights that you can apply to your own music.
