Always have automation/slight filter curves on anything that has filters (basses, acids, percs?!), create motion over 4 bars, create motion over 8 bars, You can do slight reverb washes over 8 bars, simply ramp up during last bar, same pattern repeating, you create expectation, you create energy flow. Those micro energy swells/combined with larger changes across the arrangement help create more interesting and draw the listeners attention. This is all a long way to say, it can be as simple as automating what's already there, it's does not have to be a problem with the elements even (some people even do this during mixdown).Edited0 Reply -
from 3:30 until 4:15, the track doesn't change sonically very much (click around randomly in that time range). This doesn't mean you have to change the arrangement drastically, but again it can be as simple as looking at each 8 section and saying, what element is most important right now, then filter other layers slightly dynamically, change this around every 8 bars or 16 bars to create motion.0 Reply -
Add another pluck layer here, ideally something with more centered transients that filters up here towards drop, you don't want to start filtered so low that you don't feel it starting, you should feel slight energy jump here, like holy moly, we're about to go! Time: 2:40Edited0 Reply -
Lowpass filter pads up from beginning of break to this point. (start 12 db lowpass at 400hz or so, then open it up all the way to this time stamp). Also the side chain/filter feeling is a bit heavy during this section, sounds good during groove section though so automate if possible.Edited0 Reply -
When your percs dropping out. You're losing too much high frequency arrangement wise IMO. Like there should be a small perc layer remaining (something more mid heavy like low shakers). This could be a sign of your perc just being very few layers and you not having enough to play with arrangement wise. If this is the case you can take loops and layer them (make sure to filter them so you don't get too much build up). You can totally take a top loop and filter the high end out of it to create a good fill mid layer.0 Reply -
I feel like a lot of your layers occupy the same space, the mid/plucky layer you just brought in, they all feel roughly center/wide. Things will read clearer if you separate the layers more, make a concious decision which should grab more listeners focus of the two layers, then process them accordingly, filter one a bit more, but more reverb into it, etc.0 Reply -
midbass sounds muddy (somewhere in 100-250 hz), could be eq roll of to subs, or just sound selection. I don't hear a lot of side chain on it either (the quick stacatto like bass). You can always use a ducker that only ducks lower frequencies. This comment was meant for 1:00, I'm having real trouble with the marker system it seems :)Edited0 Reply
