Trance Takeover Event

It’s takeover time again at Sonic Academy towers, and this coming month we are pulling out the big guns for a massive trance takeover.

We have grabbed some time with some of the biggest names in Trance - John O’Callaghan, Bryan Kearney, Maor Levi and Orjan Nilsen to deep dive into all things trance, their studio process and some invaluable tips and tricks from those at the top of the game!

The MasterClass

We bring you not one but three massive courses over the month in three epic trance styles. First up, we have Sonic Academy favourite James Dymond back at the helm to create a monster ASOT/FSOE-style uplifting trance track and launch the remix competition - more on this later!

Next, we just had to call upon the master of the trance progressive sound - Mr. Protoculture to create his classic Anjuna / Trance 2.0 style vibe, showing you how to create those deeper, darker style tracks. Lastly, we wanted to bring you the mainstage, 138 style trance and who better than the man himself, Sean Tyas. to deliver a frenetic track and indeed a frantic course, strap in for this one.

We have listened to your requests, and this time, we are bringing you all things Trance! For the first of three massive 'How To Make' courses we are kicking things off in style by welcoming back the brilliant James Dymond for a 4 hour epic course in FL Studio where he creates a classic Future Sound Of Egypt / A State Of Trance style track from start to finish.

James' courses have always been super popular here at Sonic, and this one raises the bar yet again, filled with pro tips and tricks and covering everything from nailing your kick and bass, creating atmospheres and FX, layering plucks, leads, pads, and vocal processing before diving into arranging, mixing and mastering.

The final result is an epic Trance anthem that captures the classic uplifting sound that helped define this genre.

But that's not all...!

Trance Takeover is now in full swing, and this week, we're bringing you the second epic masterclass in 'How To Make Trance' and this time, we welcome back the man that is Protoculture!

Nate has been assigned the task of creating a progressive Anjuna/Trance 2.0 style track, and he does not disappoint! Built from scratch from start to finish in Bitwig Studio, this mammoth course is packed full of pro tips and tricks when it comes to Trance production.

Starting with atmospheres and a running theme, we set the tone for the track before diving into kicks, percussion, arrangement, automation, leads, builds, FX and more before we carry out an extensive mixdown and master.

The end result is an epic track showcasing all the tricks you need to create a massive club ready track. We studied some of the biggest productions out there and developed new production techniques to deliver this hyper focused pack. Oct 5th - HTM 138 Trance with Sean Tyas

In our third and final 'How To Make Trance' course for Trance Takeover, we proudly welcome back Sean Tyas for a fast and furious look at creating a 138 Style classic track from start to finish.

Over these eleven videos, you'll get a no-holds-barred insight into the world of Sean's creative and free-flowing production methods, where nothing is ever really set in stone and can alter at any time throughout the process!

After going through the remix parts, Sean gets to work prepping the vocal lines before designing the kicks and basslines and changing up the melodic leads. We then start building the structure using automation and transitions to carry the track, focussing on impactful, hard-hitting drops before carrying out a master so this epic tune can be played out.
